Fall Fashion
When it comes to fully committing to the latest ‘trend’ I have noticed I tend to only dip a toe in here and there. My style, both in interiors and fashion, is mostly rooted in the classics. The bulk of my investments will usually have a more timeless feel, but I love to find ways to make a splash that is really of the moment.
Interestingly enough, I’m much more apt to dive into something on the trendier side in my home than I am in my clothing choices. Thankfully I have an amazing stylist, Brad Goreski, and best friends, Jennifer and Julia Cohen of Switch in Los Angeles, always pushing me outside of my comfort zone. When it came to shopping for a little fall refresh, I popped into Switch and noticed that the pieces that were ‘having a moment’ on the racks were also things I have been having some fun with in my design projects. With incredible fashion designers making HUGE splashes in the interior space, it’s no surprise these two worlds compliment each other. I thought for The Happy Place’s ‘Fall Fashion’ piece we could take a deeper look into how that’s happening right now!
Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year: Ultra Violet
I’m going to admit that I get really pumped when Pantone announces its color of the year. I have never been one to shy from color and while the Pantone ‘it’ color never really dominates my choices for different projects, I do love to see how it likely will pop up in a million unexpected spaces and I swoon seeing designers go all in with it in their designs like this beautiful entryway!

As much as I would revel in this being my entryway for a bit, I usually find myself investing in a few statement pieces that catch my eye. Ultra Violet is absolutely as bold as it gets, but the palate it lives in is one I really adore. So this year I found myself dabbling in it a bit more. And 2018 might be coming to an end in a few months, but I scooped up this beautiful cashmere cardigan to milk this pretty color’s moment.

Polkadots!

Now, I will be the first to admit...I love a good polka dot number. Yes, it can be a little cutesy, but I loved seeing this design trend pop up in unexpected ways in the interior space. You can often find this pattern celebrated in more youthful spaces like the bedroom below.

But, lately, I have loved seeing it pop up in more sophisticated places. I’m in the process of using Caitlin Wilson’s spotted wallpaper in my home in Los Angeles! It’s the perfect nod to a pattern I have always loved, but it’s executed in a really modern and fun way. Here’s a great example of how chic the good old polka dot can actually be!
Shearling

Don’t let my ‘too cool’ facial expression fool you. I am all in, all the time on shearling. It is truly timeless and if I could be wrapped in it or sitting on it at all times, I would. One could argue it isn’t terribly trendy because it has been around for ages, but it certainly is having a moment in the interior space and I’m all for it. For instance, I am determined to have this beauty from goop x CB2 in my home ASAP!

My love affair for shearling is very real and I don’t see it going anywhere. So here’s hoping that it makes my ‘trends’ (but really timeless) list every year.
Globally Inspired

One of the latest trends I have gravitated to and am asked to incorporate more than any other is a globally inspired ‘boho’ vibe. With designers like Amber Lewis of Amber Interiors and Emily Henderson crushing the game with jaw-dropping design work, it has opened up a whole new appreciation for stunning spaces splashed with global touches. Specifically in the way of incredible vintage rugs that punch up neutral palates instantly.

I personally have really enjoyed bringing these design elements into my work as of late. Pattern is something I always gravitate to, but there is a practicality to the foundation of this aesthetic that is undeniable. Most of the ‘investment’ pieces are neutral and timeless. They will absolutely withstand the test of time and, if you know me, you know I always advocate investing in quality workhorse pieces that you can grow and evolve with.
Thankfully, globally inspired decor is really having a moment. And with stores like Target, West Elm, and Ikea you can easily enjoy the trend without breaking the bank!
I went home from my shopping trip with some really beautiful new pieces that I know will be in constant rotation in the coming months. And I must admit, it was fun to take a deeper look into how closely connected these two creative worlds truly are. When I’m asked about what The Happy Place is on the deepest level, it’s about connecting to what makes you feel whole and complete when you walk through your front door. I find that we are all designing our lives each and everyday and one of the largest ways we do that is by the clothes we wear. We are curating our best life constantly. The Happy Place is here to celebrate and draw focus to how we can do that in our homes. It was fun to connect the dots on this one!
